This famous Charlie Parker tune is considered by jazz players to be one of the most formidable challenges in the genre, and some of Matt Catingub’s writing is even more daunting than the original. It is difficult on the saxophone or the trumpet, so it is particularly amazing when the trombone section takes on the challenge. Each trombonist is featured individually and then as a section. The song is also a great showcase for the drummer Brennan Tolman. This recording was made at the Võsu Jazz Festival performance near Tallin, Estonia.
